Arfa Butt, Music and Talent Director participated on our Inspirational YOU panel entitled ‘The business of the music industry’ on Tuesday 18th February at The College of Haringey and Enfield in North East London.
A’rfa Butt is a dynamic mover and shaker that has become a stalwart within the UK’s urban music industry and holds a solid portfolio of contacts in the US, Africa, Asia and the Middle East.
Serving as a Programmer, Broadcaster, Editor and Music Consultant for MTV and independently, A’rfa has spearheaded an endless array of international platforms, including the launch of MTV’s first UK urban channel, MTV Base, in 1999 and MTV’s 100th channel, MTV Base Africa in 2004, which also featured high-profiled concerts headlined by Will Smith and Ludacris in South Africa and Nigeria.
In 2012, A’rfa produced and hosted a panel discussion at the A3C Festival in Atlanta which brought together women within the music industry from all corners of the globe to educate people about best practices, circulation of innovative ideas, new collaborations and evolution of creative ventures into professional success.
A’rfa has worked with a pool of American talent including Dom Kennedy, Bishop Nehru, Yelawolf, Stalley, Freddie Gibbs, Homeboy sandman, Oddisee, Brother Ali, Jessie Boykins, Jaiden The Cure and many more, introducing them to the UK through MTV’s The Wrap Up blog & MTV Base along with other initiatives.
She has also managed celebrity model/DJ Tyger Lilly, MC/Def Jam Poet Quadir Lateef and UK Producer Skitzbeatz.
In addition to working across MTV’s UK, Euro and Australia channels, A’rfa also recently joined UK’s new independent record label 10Thousand Music LIVE as their Talent & Promotions Director to book and manage the UK-leg of their American tours.
