Creative, Community and Corporate Pop Up to Inspire Change

Friday 20th December 2013

Inspiration, growth, passion and a desire for change are just a few words that come to mind when you think of a growing community.  Whilst many communities struggle to unite and celebrate the many achievements that are happening behind the scenes, Inspirational You, Impact 10 and Metropolitan Housing have taken the opportunity to recognise and celebrate those who have worked hard and contributed to the events that have taken place at SW4 Pop-Up-Shop in Clapham Park since July 2013.

comedian Slim, award winning music artist Clement Marfo and poet Lyrical Healer are some of the performers that are scheduled to celebrate the success, support and share their wisdom and inspire change at the SW4 Pop Up Shop Celebration Showcase that marks its closure in Clapham on 20th December 2013.

The SW4 Pop Up Shop in Clapham Park was a project set up by Metropolitan Housing due to the current high unemployment rates and high skill rates in the area.  The main aim for the shop was to kick start and support business growth in the area by providing development space and training opportunities.

The activities in the shop have been managed by Sonia Meggie founder of Inspirational You.  Participants on an Event Management course delivered in partnership with Yvonne Phillip at Impact 10 have organised the event as part of their training.

I am so happy to have been part of the Pop Up Shop in Clapham and to have met and engaged with so many talented residents. The events course has seen local people come together to share skills and learn what it takes to start a business. We provided them with work experience, practical skills and key industry contacts who will guide them as they launch their new ventures.

It is such a shame that the Pop Up Shop has to close, it is a fantastic initiative and I applaud Metropolitan housing on being so innovative and enterprising in their community work.

We want to ensure that the local pioneers in the community are acknowledge and rewarded for all their efforts and hard work by leaving a legacy for development.

Providing a chance to highlight the great moments created over the past months and also look to the future, as we focus on how the local community can inspire change for themselves and others.  The Pop up Shop journey will come to an end and its successes celebrated with a ceremony of awards handed out by the Metropolitan Housing CEO Brian Johnson, live PA’s, a photographic exhibition, good food from around the world, stalls for that last minute seasonal shopping and great company.

The event will take place from 3.30pm – 8pm on Friday 20th December 2013 at the SW4 PopUpShop, 8 Mullins Place (off Kings Avenue next to Sainsbury’s Local) SW4 8EU.
