Philip Gibbs is a barrister with over 20 years call specialising in Crime and Sports Law. He is a senior member of KCH Garden Square Chambers, a leading set in the Midlands. Philip prosecutes and defends in serious criminal cases. Philip recently appeared as co – counsel at the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne acting for Taekwondo Olympic gold medallist Mu Yen Chu and Chinese Taipei against the world’s largest sporting body, the International Olympic Committee. He has acted for the British Swimming Association and other sporting bodies. He addressed the recent De Montfort University/BASL Sports Law conference on the subject of prosecuting for a Sports Governing body. Philip is the author of the blog which provides discussion and debate on the sports law issues of the day. He also writes for lawinsport, the leading sports law website.

Philip is an experienced advocate and sometime lecturer. He has acted as Pupil Master to a significant number of barristers and has mentored many others. Philip runs an annual advocacy workshop for the Kaplan Law School Bar Course in London and provides course materials including training videos for Kaplan and Nottingham Law School.

Philip has an interest in women’s football and is currently organising an international collaboration between Bristol Academy Ladies football team, the 4th highest ranked women’s football team in the country and Bahrain in the Middle East. Bristol will travel to Bahrain later this year in order to participate in friendly matches against the Bahrain Women’s National team and also to engage in a coaching and cultural exchange. It is anticipated that in future years this event will develop into an international tournament involving a number of Middle Eastern countries.

Philip is also involved with diversity issues in his home town of Leicester and is endeavouring to assist a local multi racial youth football team with issues arising from discrimination.
