NCS is a 4 week programme that runs throughout the summer, giving 16 and 17 year olds the opportunity to build skills that promote their employability. This is done through a residential week ofteam buildingin the Peak District through activities such as rock climbing, abseiling, raft building, archery etc. In the second week of the project learners are based at Derby College with a residential at Derby University Halls of Residence. During this week learners will develop skills inproject planning, budgeting, communication and understanding what community is, and means to them.
From this point forward within their teams, the young peopleidentify an area in the communitythat they are passionate about, and work together to build a projectto make a lasting difference. The things teams have done are absolutely amazing. We have groups working all over Derbyshire and the surrounding area, so many of our groups have worked in or around the area.
The 4 week programmecosts a maximum of £40 (heavily subsidised by the government as it would cost £1,200 otherwise) and we do have bursaries available for those who receive benefits.
