Positive Action Scheme
The Guardian believes there should be a better representation of our diverse society in journalism, and each summer offers 12 two-week placements for students or graduates from black, Asian and other visible ethnic minority (BAME) backgrounds.
Successful applicants will learn about different aspects of the profession, gaining an insight into the workings of the newspaper, website and our multimedia department.
At the end of the two weeks, we offer each participant a chance to come back and spend one more week with the desk that they felt was most useful and interesting for them. The initial two weeks take place over the summer (July – September), the third week can take place at any time after, to suit the desk and the student. During their time here, each student is also assigned a mentor. The scheme is unpaid.

Positive Action Scheme for people with disabilities
To further its belief in diversity, this year the Guardian is launching a positive action programme for people with disabilities who wish to pursue a career in journalism. Successful applicants will spend a week on the newspaper and website during the month of June.
Please attach all of the following within ONE document:
Part 1)
Your current CV.
Part 2)
Please write a covering note explaining in 150 words why you would like the placement, and stating clearly why you qualify for a minority-focused scheme.
Part 3)
Please write a 400-word feature or comment article, on a current issue, which you believe will be of interest to Guardian readers.
