Biography

Sonia Meggie BA MSc is an award winner and founder of Inspirational YOU; a London based social enterprise launched in March 2010. Their mission is to connect, inspire and empower young people, women and ethnic minorities who want to make professional changes to their lives. Prior to founding Inspirational YOU, Sonia worked for a leading management consultancy in city of London. She was head hunted to become the Director of a well-known promotions company who worked alongside UK and international artists. After five years of organising large scale live shows she felt compelled to do more to bring together inspirational personalities and influencers to empower others and make a difference.

With Inspirational YOU, she has been networking and connecting with senior leaders who all participate in their programs and events, debates, conferences, shows and training. They are focused on enterprise, self-development and well-being workshops. Sonia is a single parent, mentor and football coach who is driven by making a difference and seeing those around her reaching their full potential. Her objective is to leave a legacy that will see the progression of women, ethnic minorities and young people.

Her mantra is “Be the change that you wish to see in the world”.

Sonia was selected from over 21,000 nominees to win the Positive Role Model Award at the National Diversity Awards in September 2014 and also an Inspirational award at BAFTA’s Back to Black Awards in October 2014. She was featured in the Powerlist 2013, which profiles the most influential people of African and African Caribbean heritage in the United Kingdom and is listed on Blackenterprise.com as one of London’s most powerful black women. In January 2015 she was selected as one of the top 10 African and Caribbean Women of influence. Sonia has a BA in Business Studies and Social Policy, and an MSc in E Commerce.

She has recently completed an MA in Digital Media and was selected from hundreds to be an RSA Diaspora Changemaker, which consisted of 100 individuals who want to see change in Africa. Alongside this, Sonia works Part time as a Diversity Consultant in the city of London and has recently launched a fashion brand called FunkyNChunky and will be opening a Saturday school in South West London in the autumn of 2015.

• Board Advisor – Police Now, a new innovative Police Leadership Development Programme that puts exceptional graduates on the frontline of the capital’s most challenged communities.

• Friends Committee Member – Black Cultural Archives – The UK’s first dedicated Black heritage centre in Brixton. They deliver an exciting programme of exhibitions and events that explore British history from a unique perspective.

• Board Advisor – GUBA EXPO – The Expo provides a platform for African led SME’s to showcase, gain exposure and business opportunities in the UK.

Under Sonia’s leadership Inspirational YOU has partnered and supported organisations such as Google, Deloitte, Barclays Corporate, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Heidi Alexander MP, Garden Court Chambers, You Tube, PwC, Pearsons, ITV, Sky, London Youth, Daily Mail, BBC, Channel 4, GoThinkBig, Metropolitan Housing, Lewisham Homes, Southwark Council, Lambeth Council, Lewisham Council, Stephen Lawrence Trust, University of London and the UK Supreme Court.
