Christl Hughes (Solicitor) will be joining our ‘Succeeding in law’ seminar at Birkbeck College on 30th June 2012.

Christl Hughes qualified as a solicitor in 1980.

After studying law at the University of Leicester she completed her training in London (Knightsbridge and the City) and then returned to the Midlands. Thereafter she was in practice as a High St. solicitor specialising in Employment, Family Law, Civil Litigation and Practice Management. She was a Local Conciliator for the Legal Complaints Service, President of Leicestershire Law Society and Leicestershire Medico -Legal Society and sat on the Good Practice and Regional Liaison Committees of Resolution, the organisation for family lawyers.

Currently she is Immediate Past Chairwoman of the Association of Women Solicitors (AWS) and sits on the Equality & Diversity sub – board of Leicestershire Law Society. Since retiring from full time legal practice she has expanded her role of Area Representative for SBA -The Solicitors’ Charity, become a volunteer for LawCare Ltd and been appointed a charity trustee and  school governor.

Christl was delighted to accept an invitation to attend the Inspirational YOU Conference as she has a particular interest in those wishing to enter the solicitors’ profession, both those seeking a Training Contract at the start and those wishing to come back after a break.  She is  thus  both a mentor  for students and involved in the AWS Returner Course for experienced solicitors wishing to return.

The  AWS  was founded in 1923 a year after the first woman was admitted as a solicitor. It has a current membership of over 18000. The Association aims to promote the potential and success of every woman solicitor at all stages of her career and to offer support, advice, educational and pastoral care services as well as networking opportunities to members.  Membership is free and open to all women solicitors from registration on the Legal Practice Course (LPC) onwards.
